A Delhi court hearing cases against MPs and MLAs has found two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs guilty. MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi and Sanjeev Jha along with 15 others have been held guilty of rioting and causing hurt to policemen. Recently, the court found both the MLAs guilty in the 7-year-old case.
Which MLAs were found guilty by the court
The case pertains to a meeting and attack on policemen at Burari police station in Delhi in 2015. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vaibhav Mehta ordered the arrest of AAP MLAs Akhileshpati Tripathi and Sanjeev Jha and other accused in a case related to rioting and attack on police personnel.
Major role in inciting violent mob
The court, in its 149-page judgment passed on September 7, said, “The court is of the view that the prosecution has been able to establish that when the mob turned violent, both the accused persons- Sanjeev Jha and Akhilesh Pati Tripathi were present on the spot.” .’ In fact both played a major role in instigating the people and the crowd.

The court convicted the accused persons of rioting, obstructing public servants, voluntarily attacking public servants in the discharge of official duty and unlawful assembly. However, the court acquitted him of criminal intimidation and damage to public property. The court said the prosecution’s witnesses were “consistent” in their testimony. The court said that both the MLAs were present at the spot and they were not only “active participants but were actually leading the crowd”.
Decision on sentence on September 21
The court also said, the two MLAs incited the mob for the “common purpose of unlawful assembly” to “teach the police officers a lesson and to intimidate the police by force”. The court will hear arguments on the punishment of the convicts on September 21.
10 other accused acquitted
Explain that apart from the two AAP MLAs, the court also ordered Balram Jha, Shyam Gopal Gupta, Kishore Kumar, Lalit Mishra, Jagdish Chandra Joshi, Narendra Singh Rawat, Neeraj Pathak, Raju Malik, Ashok Kumar, Ravi Prakash Jha, Ismail Islam and Manoj Kumar. , Vijay Pratap Singh, Hira Devi and Yashwant have been convicted. However, the court also acquitted 10 other accused.
Violence in Burari police station
Let us tell you that about seven years ago, on the night of 20 February 2015, a violent incident took place at Burari police station. In this incident property was damaged and police personnel were beaten up. The incident took place when the mob demanded the handing over of two persons arrested by the police. The police tried to pacify the crowd but the MLAs sided with the crowd. The mob pelted stones and also attacked the policemen. It was argued on behalf of the MLAs that they had gone to the police station to pacify the crowd. He pleaded not to incite the crowd in his explanation, which was rejected by the court.
