257 new civil junior engineers join Odisha’s water resources department

Bhubaneswar, November 10: In the Water Resources Department of Odisha, 257 civil junior engineers joined this evening, including 87 women engineers. According to reports, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the new engineers and asked them to work with sincerity and sensitivity towards the people of the state with dedication towards the job. He wished her a bright future.


The Chief Minister further said that the Water Resources Department is responsible for providing irrigation facilities to the farmers as well as for managing the floods to protect the life and property of our people. He said that there are more than two thousand five hundred dams in the state and work of some major dams like Lower Suktel, Kanpur and Ghatkeshwar is in progress. The CM also said that, the Water Resources Department is also constructing 30 Instream Storage Structures and 16 more are in the pipeline located in various rivers of the State, with a budget outlay of around Rs. 12 thousand crores.

He said that these structures would provide dual benefit with conservation of surface water and increase in ground water level. In addition, junior engineers have a greater role to play in the on-site supervision of new projects as well as the operation and maintenance of completed projects and ensuring designed irrigation for agricultural land. The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the department’s efforts towards IT enabled governance, leading to greater accountability, efficiency and transparency. Speaking on the occasion, Water Resources Minister Tukuni Sahu said that the Chief Minister has envisioned a transformational initiative for the State which will elevate the State to a high position among the States.

He appealed to the new engineers to work with responsibility and commitment towards the people. Sharing their experience, three new engineers Sithpragyan Biswal, Lokesh Bal and Nikita Manjhi said that the recruitment process has been absolutely transparent and time bound. He committed to work for transformative initiatives under the mandate of the 5T&Mo Government.
