Delhi High Court has sought response from MCD. The MCD has been accused of ‘inhuman action’ in the eviction of an 80-year-old woman’s slum in the harsh winter. The house of 250-300 dogs has also been snatched. High Court has stayed the action
The Delhi High Court has taken cognizance of the alleged inhuman action of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). According to reports, the MCD has demolished the shack of Pratima Devi, an old lady who takes care of around 300 homeless dogs. The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued a stay order till the hearing of the case is over. According to reports, 80-year-old Pratima Devi has been taking care of homeless dogs in a dilapidated shanty in Delhi’s Saket area for the last almost 38 years.
After the slum is razed, Pratima is forced to live on the street with the dogs. Now that the High Court has stayed the stay order till the hearing of the matter is completed on Wednesday, the 80-year-old Pratima is expected to get some relief in this bone-chilling cold.
According to reports, people are reaching out for help after the news of their slum being razed. Some are bringing food for the dogs and some are bringing warm clothes for an elderly woman. After the action of MCD, animal lover Suraj also reached to help Pratima Devi.
According to the report of news agency ANI, Sooraj said, “In this severe cold where people are finding it difficult to leave the house, the women are helping the dumb creatures by giving shelter to so many stray dogs. People should help them.” MCD’s action is wrong. No notice was given before action.”
According to Suraj, taking care of around 300 dogs is not an easy task, but she is not only giving shelter to so many dogs but also providing them food and drink. 80-year-old Pratima is a dog lover, in such a situation, despite being homeless, she also takes full care of the dogs. Suraj has appealed that people should come forward to help them.

A person working in the parking lot near PVR Saket told that he has been seeing for the last several years that the elderly lady Pratima helps the dogs. He told ANI, “Many times people leave their dogs and go away. Amma gives shelter to these dogs and feeds them.”
The man alleged that earlier in 2017 too, the MCD had demolished the temporary shelter built by Pratima for dogs.
