A 29-year-old woman committed suicide in Manali New Town near Chennai on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Bhavani. Bhavani used to work in a healthcare firm near Kandachvadi. The family consists of husband Bhagyaraj (35), who works in a private firm near Thoraipakkam. Bhavani has two children. One is 3 years old and the other is 1.5 years old.
Woman lost 10 lakhs in online rummy
According to the police, Bhavani, a BS graduate, was in the habit of playing online rummy for the last one and a half years. In the initial phase, he made a lot of profit from it. He then started investing more in online rummy in the last four months. After that he suffered heavy losses. Even after this, Bhavani continued to gamble online. It was told that the woman had suffered a loss of more than Rs 10 lakh. He sought help from his family members to pay off the debt.
Lost 30 thousand more, then ended life
Police said that even on Sunday, Bhavani had suffered a loss of more than 30 thousand rupees in online rummy. After that she became very upset. That same night, around 8.30 pm, Bhavani had gone to her mother’s house in the adjacent street after having dinner, telling her family that she would be back soon. When she did not come, husband Bhagyaraj reached home and found her dead. Saravanan, a relative of Bhavani, told the media that he tried to invest more and more in online rummy to recover the lost amount, but his debt kept increasing.
