New Delhi, 29 September : Air India has announced that it has reduced its senior citizen and student concessions from 50 per cent to 25 per cent to rationalize airfares. The airline, which was re-acquired by the Tata group in January, said in a statement that the concessions are being cut keeping in view the market conditions.

An Air India spokesperson said, “Keeping in mind the overall market position and dynamics, we have decided to rationalize our fares in line with the broader industry trends.

The spokesperson said that even after this measure, Air India’s discount on base fares for senior citizens and students will be almost double as compared to other private airlines. There is no change in the concessions for categories of passengers other than senior citizens and students.

Presently Air India offers concessions to Armed Forces personnel, Arjuna Awardees, Gallantry Award recipients, Cancer patients and blind people among others.
