New Delhi, 3 June. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday ahead of the presidential and vice-presidential elections due in July. Reddy’s meeting with the Prime Minister of Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress Party assumes significance as the Bharatiya Janata Party intensified its preparations for the presidential election and called on allies in the event of a joint candidate being fielded by the opposition. An official statement said, “…the Chief Minister met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here and during their 45-minute meeting, various issues related to the state were discussed.”

At present, the YSR Congress has around four per cent votes in the ‘Electoral College’ for the presidential election. The YSR Congress had also supported NDA candidates in the 2017 presidential and vice-presidential elections as well. The party had also supported the government on three controversial agricultural laws. All three laws were later repealed. The Chief Minister later also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and discussed various issues. Reddy is likely to meet the Jal Shakti Minister as well as the Home Minister.
