Amaravati, June 17: The Andhra Pradesh government headed by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is preparing to conduct a special examination for admission to nursing courses from the year 2022-23. The government has demanded to conduct Nursing CET from NTR Health University for this. Indian Nursing Council had decided to conduct NEET or state level entrance exam in 2020 to raise the standards in nursing education at par with engineering and medicine.
Nursing CET was to be conducted from 2021-22 academic year but at that time it was not possible due to Corona pandemic. At the same time, the Indian Nursing Council has turned down NTR Medical University’s request for relaxation for this academic year as well. University officials have written a letter to the government asking them to conduct a special examination.
There are about 200 B.Sc Nursing colleges in the state, both public and private. It has 12,000 seats. Students from other states including Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal, Manipur and Tripura come to Andhra Pradesh to pursue nursing courses. Till now admission in four year nursing course is done on the basis of inter marks. Government conducts Engineering, Agriculture, Pharmacy Common Entrance Test for admission to Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy courses in the state. In this context, admission to B.Sc Nursing is possible through EAPCET.
