Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh is taking big steps to attract investment in green energy. The state is giving a tough competition to the states which were till now known as hubs of green energy plants. The state secured the fourth position in green power generation in 2022 and it is going to be a leader in the next two-three years as the state government has lined up several big-ticket projects in the renewable energy sector.
Andhra Pradesh is set to add 1,261.54 MW to its existing power generation through green energy during 2022, according to data compiled by the Centre. While Gujarat added 7,880 MW, Rajasthan added 9,227 MW.
Similarly, Tamil Nadu added 3,368 MW and Karnataka added 2,024 MW. Andhra Pradesh is slightly behind Maharashtra which added around 1,288mw. Interestingly, Telangana added around 958 MW, which is less than Andhra Pradesh. The larger state of Uttar Pradesh, which had also planned bigger projects, could only generate 1,245mw. The Center said that all the states together would add about 30,000 MW through green energy during 2022, which is a significant increase. Interestingly, this additional generation through green energy is isolated from large hydroelectric projects.
