Asansol Stampede: BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari arrested by Bengal Police from UP, 3 people were killed

Late last year, former Asansol mayor and BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari organized a blanket distribution programme. In which there was a stampede. Three people had died in that incident. In this case, now the Bengal Police has arrested him from Uttar Pradesh. The police team is taking him by flight to Kolkata, so that he can be presented in the court and remanded.

According to the information, Jitendra Tiwari was going from Noida to Agra with his wife. When he was on the Yamuna Expressway, the Bengal Police team stopped his car and arrested him. After this he took them to Delhi airport. From there, Tiwari was being taken to Kolkata via flight. At the same time, Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh has hit back at Mamta Banerjee. He said that this arrest happened under politics. This was not an arrestable case.

According to the Asansol police, the Asansol North police station had registered a case after the incident on 14 December 2022. In which the names of Tiwari and his wife are also included. A case of culpable homicide was registered against both. So far 5 people have been arrested in this case. After the FIR, Tiwari’s lawyer had also gone to the High Court, but he was not exempted from arrest. Apart from this, the police had got the exemption to interrogate his wife.

Left TMC and joined BJP
Jitendra Tiwari stayed in TMC for a long time. He was also elected MLA from the same party and later won the election of Asansol mayor, but in the last election, when Shubhendu Adhikari left TMC and joined BJP, Tiwari also came with him. His wife is in politics. He is currently a councilor from Asansol. She also resigned from TMC and joined BJP along with her husband.

Shubhendu Adhikari was involved in the program
It is alleged that Tiwari had organized this program without permission. Shubhendu Adhikari also came in this. When he left the show, the crowd rushed to the stage to collect blankets. Three people died in this, while many people were injured.
