India’s Avani Lekhara on Tuesday won the gold medal at the Chateauroux Para Shooting World Cup in the women’s 10m air rifle standings SH1 with a world record score of 250.6.
20-year-old Avani broke her own world record of 249.6 and sealed a spot for herself at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Poland’s Emilia Babska won the silver medal with a total of 247.6, while the bronze went to Sweden’s Anna Norman who scored 225.6.
This was Avani’s first tournament after Paralympics and after winning here she also tweeted in which she felt proud to return to India with her world record score and also talked about securing a place in Paris Paralympics. Avni tagged various celebrities for their support and thanked them.

The SH1 category is for athletes with lower limb impairment to participate in the rifle event.
Earlier, Lekhara was on the verge of being ruled out of the World Cup as her coach and escort were denied visas. However, the issue was resolved with the timely intervention of the SAI and the Sports Ministry.
In August last year, Lekhara won a gold medal in the 10m air rifle standings event in the SH1 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. She then won a bronze medal in the women’s 50m Rifle Three Position SH1 event, making her the first Indian woman to win multiple medals at the Paralympics.
