Let us tell you that since the Russia-Ukraine war, the planes of most western countries have been banned from using Russian airspace. Companies from countries like China, India can pass through Russian territory. There is no restriction of any kind on them. On the other hand, planes of American airlines have to fly more circuitous routes required to observe no-go zones.

According to Airlines for America, this is putting companies in the US airline industry at a disadvantage compared to their rivals. US airlines are losing up to $2 billion a year to foreign companies, according to the trade group. Not only this, American airline companies also have to face the anger of those passengers because they have to spend more money than the airlines of other countries. In such a situation, US senators and the airline industry have urged the Biden administration to ban airlines wishing to do business with Russia or to follow the route of American airlines.

According to Airlines for America, companies such as China Eastern, Emirates and Air India have not suffered any losses after the Ukraine war and the revenue of these airlines has increased significantly. This is because they can go into Russian territory and take the shortest route. At the same time, these American planes also have to land at many places for refueling and operate long distance flights with dozens of empty seats.

The New York Times compared two flights between New York John F Kennedy International Airport and New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport operated by Air India and American Airlines. The Air India flight costs approximately $1,500 and lasts approximately 13 hours and 40 minutes. The American Airlines flight costs $1,740 and lasts 14 hours 55 minutes.
