Bhubaneswar, June 18: Many people have become homeless due to the second wave of the corona virus epidemic, while hundreds of children have become orphans during this period. In such a situation, the Odisha government has decided to take up the responsibility of the orphaned children in the state. The government has talked about providing free education to orphan children. In fact, currently 35 children in the state have lost both their parents to the pandemic. Therefore, the Tehsildars of all the districts have been asked to give a detailed report regarding all the children orphaned due to the pandemic. At the same time, officials said that the Odisha government will provide free education to all the children who have lost their parents in the Kovid 19 pandemic under its ‘Green Passage’ scheme.

According to officials, the scheme will cover the cost of admission, tuition and examination fees of children for school and higher education including technical education, engineering etc. Along with this, a pension of Rs 2,000 will also be given to these children every month. At the same time, children will also be given advance pension for June, July and August.

Women and Child Development Department Adviser Sulata Dev said that ‘Green Passage’ scheme has been launched by the state government for higher education in Odisha, in which in case of children orphaned by Kovid 19, their education cost at all levels including school is covered. The scheme has been implemented for this purpose and if the orphan child is studying in a private institution, then the government will also bear his expenses.

Helpline number issued for help
The Department of Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti has issued helpline number 1098, helpline 1800-345-4494 and state covid helpline 104 to help children. Along with this, temporary houses have been built in all the 30 districts to keep orphans.
