A woman who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor has claimed that she was told by a voice in her head that she should undergo a CT scan.
A Twitter user has shared the unusual hallucinogenic therapy case of the woman. The viral social media post on Hallucinations has garnered over 43,000 likes and 6,500 retweets. “Diagnosed by hallucinatory voices,” tweeted the user.
The social media post added that voices come to her mind for the woman to undergo a CT scan. It claims that he has a brain tumour. Psychiatrists treating hallucinations advise a CT scan to reassure the woman. Tumor was detected after the test. After the surgery, the woman claimed, the voices in her mind thanked her for listening and disappeared.
According to a case report published in the BMJ, in 1984 a 40-year-old woman said she was home alone. One day while she was studying, a voice started talking to her. “Please don’t be scared. I know it must be shocking for you to hear me talking to you like this, but this is the easiest way I could think of,” IndiaTV reported.
The woman further explained the voice, “My friend and I work at the Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street. We want to help you.” According to IFLScience, the patient sought psychiatric help and the report’s author, Dr. Ikechukwu Obialo met Azuoni.
After being diagnosed with functional hallucinatory psychosis, the woman was given medication and counselling. The hallucinations subsided for a while, but the hallucinations returned while she was on holiday abroad. He came to know from the voices coming in his mind that he had a brain tumor. There is swelling in his brain stem. The voice in the mind told him to go to the hospital and advised him to get a CT scan done.
The patient and the team discussed how best to treat the tumour, reports IFLScience. It was decided to operate as soon as possible. This was a decision that was supported by hallucinations.
Later surgery was done. The tumor was removed, but when she recovered from surgery, she heard the same sound again. “We are happy to help you. Bye.” The report said that according to the doctor, who kept in touch with the patient for 12 years. The voices did not return again.
