The State of Chhattisgarh will get the National Award for ‘Best Inland State’ in the field of fisheries and Bharat Bala Aquaculture of Bagaud village of Dhamtari district for ‘Best Proprietary Firm’ on the occasion of World Fisheries Day on November 21. This program of giving national award by the National Fisheries Development Board has been organized at Swami Vivekananda Auditorium Dunetha Daman.

Where in the presence of Union Minister Purushottam Rupala, Union Minister of State Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State Dr. L. Murugan and other guests, the state of Chhattisgarh was honored with the ‘Best Inland State’ award and presented a prize of Rs 10 lakh and a memento will be honored. On this occasion, Bharat Bala Aquaculture, a fishing firm of Bagaud village of Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh state, will be honored with a prize of two lakh rupees and a memento as the ‘Best Proprietary Firm’.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey have expressed happiness over Chhattisgarh state getting two national level honors simultaneously in the field of fisheries and have congratulated all the people associated with the fisheries sector including the officers and employees of the department.

It is worth noting that due to the grant of agriculture status to fish farming by the state government, the cost of production has come down considerably due to exemption in electricity rate and free water and interest-free loan to fish farmers. The income of fish farmers is increasing. 1.999 lakh hectare water area is available in the state for fisheries, out of which 1,961 lakh hectare water area has been developed so far, which is 98 percent of the total available water area. The length of the riverine watershed is 3573 kilometers naturally available. Rural pond 1.173 lakh and irrigation reservoir 0.825 lakh hectare water area is available for fish farming.

To promote fisheries in the state, 86 hatcheries, 59 fish seed farms and 647 hectare culture ponds are available for fish seed production. Where fish seed of advanced species is being produced. 330 crore fish seed fry is being produced in the state. The state’s requirement is 143 crores, after meeting the state’s requirement, the remaining 187 crores fish seed is being exported to other states. Thus the state has become self-sufficient in fish seed production.
