Bhubaneswar: Agriculture in Odisha is the largest employment generating sector in the state and therefore key to the socio-economic development of Odisha. On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that it is for this reason that the government lays special emphasis on the development of this sector through a comprehensive, inclusive state agriculture policy.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was addressing the induction program of 22 Assistant Agriculture Officers in the State Agriculture Department. In addition, 53 officers also joined the Odisha Cashew Development Corporation. This orientation was organized at the State Convention Center located at Lok Seva Bhawan. The CM said that Odisha is primarily an agrarian economy with agriculture and allied sectors contributing about 21 per cent to the Gross State Value Added Products in the State.

Congratulating the new officers through video conferencing, Naveen Patnaik hoped that our state would be filled with new energy and passion for agriculture sector service as the young officers would become part of its delivery mechanism. He advised the young officers to work with commitment following the 5T principles and expressed hope that their dedication will surely boost the results at the field level.
