China Covid Protests: What is Zero Covid Policy China lockdown

What is the reason for the public revolt?
The reason for the huge resentment among the public is the restrictions imposed due to Kovid-19. Due to which the life of the people has become difficult. Where the corona lockdown has become history for the world. Whereas in China, President Xi Jinping has implemented Zero Covid policy by making it a weapon of strictness on the public.

Due to this policy, lockdown has been imposed in many areas of China for four months and people have stopped leaving their homes. They no longer have access to suitable food and medical supplies. So people’s ability to tolerate is now beginning to respond.

Although the ruling party had promised to ease the lockdown, strictness was further increased after the increase in infections. In fact, every day an increase in cases of corona infection is being recorded in China. On November 27, 40 thousand cases of corona were reported, which is the biggest figure so far and the number of active cases had also crossed 3 lakh.

According to a New York Times report, until two weeks ago people in China were not required to show negative reports of corona on public buses and trains, giving some relief from the strict lockdown in the country. But now everything has changed again. Many cities like Xinjiang, Guangdong and Guangzhou are highly affected by the infection and the corona infection is more than the corona wave that hit the country in April this year. Statistics from the World Health Organization say that in the last seven days, 418 people have died in China due to corona infection.

According to an estimate, 66 lakh people are imprisoned in homes in China. These people are being tested for Covid everyday and strict action is being taken against those who are not following the rules of the government. In cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing and Xinhua, students are holding silent protests with blank white papers. This blank white paper is meant to be a protest to avoid censorship or arrest.

Blank paper became the ‘symbol’ of protest
Large-scale public protests are notoriously difficult in China. The communist regime under President Jinping has almost eliminated the space for dissent here. Chinese citizens mostly vent their frustration on social media, but that too is almost censored. This is the reason why this blank paper has become a symbol of protest in China.

Use of Physics Formulas in Demonstration
Students of China’s most prestigious university, Xinhua, are also taking part in the protest. However, his way of performing is very unique. Students are expressing their anger against this policy by using physics formula. Around 200 to 300 students of Tsinghua University in Beijing were seen on Monday waving papers with physics formulas written on them. Hong Kong activist Nathan Law tweeted a picture of these students protesting. According to reports, the meaning of this formula is being told as free man. Its meaning is being linked to the independence of China and the independence of China.

Demonstrations in many cities of China
The people of China have given President Jinping the status of dictator and illegal president. The demonstrations, which began in Xinjiang’s Urumqi, have spread to Shanghai, Beijing, as well as cities such as Guangzhou and Chengdu. This demonstration is fast becoming visible in other places and its videos are going viral on social media. In these videos, Chinese people are protesting against the Communist Party (CCP) and chanting slogans like ‘Remove Communist Party’, ‘Remove Communist Party’ and ‘Remove Xi Jinping’. The protesters say they want freedom of the press, freedom of expression and freedom of movement.

Protests in different countries of the world
Many Chinese expatriate students are protesting against their President Xi Jinping in different countries. Protests have also taken place in cities in Asia and North America, according to a Reuters tally organized by students.
White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby told reporters at a news conference that the United States is closely monitoring developments in China. Kirby said our message to peaceful protesters around the world is the same and consistent and that people should be given the right to assemble and peacefully protest policies or laws.
Why did people remember the Tiananmen incident?
This demonstration taking place in China is the biggest in the last three decades. Earlier in the year 1989, there was a big demonstration in Tiananmen Square in which thousands of Chinese citizens including unarmed students took part in demanding democracy in China. To crush that movement, the Chinese army took tanks on the streets and killed many people in military action. According to government figures, more than 200 people were killed and about 7 thousand were injured in those demonstrations.
