Historic water crisis in Mexico
The North American country of Mexico is forced to face a historic water crisis. More than half of Mexico is currently in the grip of moderate to very severe drought, according to the Federal Water Commission of Conagua. The scorching heat is falling apart and scientists are blaming climate change for it. According to a report by Reuters, people in many cities of Mexico do not have water. Water taps in several areas of Sierra Ventana have run dry for the past week. The country’s most important industrial city has been hit by a historic water crisis. ‘We’re all struggling because there’s no water,’ said Robles, 60, a woman.
‘We are facing an extreme environmental crisis’
Desperately, Robles and his neighbors climbed onto the nearby municipal water tank and began collecting water one by one from each of their vessels. Because, from this one has to drink, cook, wash clothes and clean the school uniform. On the other hand, due to drought in the Monterey metropolitan area and less rainfall for several years, the entire city is facing water scarcity. The population here is about 53 lakhs. “We are facing an extreme environmental crisis,” the governor of Nuevo León, Samuel Gracia, told a press conference last week. He said, ‘Today, we are all living like this and are suffering from it.’
water bottles from supermarket
Here the water cut was started from the beginning of June. Water was being provided only for 6 hours a day. Because of this the school timings had to be changed. This created so much panic that people started stocking up on bottled water and supermarkets ran out of water. From above, the anger of the people started boiling over the fact that soda and beer companies were being allowed to extract water, while the common people were longing for water drop by drop.
The government is living in the hope of rain
The local government says it is trying to save water by repairing pipe leaks and installing pressure valves. Not only this, those farms, companies and slaughterhouses are being cracked down, who have been caught stealing water from rivers or secret wells. The hottest month is yet to come, so for the time being this crisis is not expected to go away. The only hope rests in the sky that there will be some rain showers.

big warning to the world
According to Juan Ignacio Barragán, head of the Water and Sewage Agency, the metropolitan area’s two major dams, from where it supplies water, could be empty by Tuesday morning. There is a third dam, where only 45% of the water capacity is left. He has admitted in front of the press that water supply has come to a standstill in many areas. Among these is the area where the Robles live. What is happening in Mexico today is a big warning for the future. The entire routine of people in this area, which is facing 40 degree temperature during the day, has been reduced to collecting water. This is a great example of how big a crisis is climate change becoming on the earth. (Images courtesy of Water Crisis – Youtube Videos)
