HYDERABAD: With Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar visiting Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday discussed the appointment of new IAS officers for revenue-generating departments. According to sources, the state is in dire need of funds to implement welfare schemes in the election year, so orders for the appointment of new officers will be issued soon.

So far Somesh Kumar had all the major revenue generating portfolios like Commercial Taxes, Stamps and Registration, Revenue and Excise. However, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Excise and Stamp and Registration collections have increased significantly during Somesh Kumar’s tenure. But, the state government is now facing a shortage of funds due to conditions imposed by the central government on market borrowing under the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act (FRBM).

The revenue shortfall to the state this year due to the economic sanctions imposed by the Center is around Rs 40,000 crore. Keeping this in view, KCR focused on revenue-generating departments and held preliminary discussions with some officials. It remains to be seen whether he will ask new Chief Secretary Shanti Kumar to look into some of the departments.
