CM KCR’s Kanti Velugu scheme is proving to be a boon for the people of Telangana and people are getting its benefits.
Venkata Mangamma, 67, who attended a Kanti Velugu camp in Ameerpet area along with her neighbors for an eye check-up, was sure that the doctors would find her vision to be fine. But, contrary to his conviction, it was found that he had a refractive error, requiring medicines and glasses. Coming out of the camp, Venkata Mangamma said that she did not want to wear glasses, but the doctors said that she would have to wear glasses.
Venkat Mangamma is among 80,000 people who have been fitted with glasses on the advice of doctors during the ongoing Kanti Velugu eye-check-up programme. These people did not know that there was a problem with their eyes. These people were living with an eye defect. Some were also facing the problem of night blindness, but without investigation, they could not find out their problem.
A senior health official said, “Many people came for the check-up thinking that they would go back assured that their vision was fine, but they were surprised to learn that their eyes were defective. While some people are reluctant to wear glasses, once we advise them, they are convinced and follow the advice.
Officials said that in the first phase of the Kanti Velugu program in 2018, one in five people were found to be unaware of this defect even in cases of retinal damage, serious problems like glaucoma.
