Is. The proposal to install small electric buses has emerged based on a comprehensive route study conducted by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).
This study was conducted by the Delhi government a few years ago to provide Delhiites with public transport within a radius of 500 meters of their homes within five to 15 minutes. A Delhi government official said the need for smaller buses was felt in the study on routes where larger buses cannot ply. Along with this, such routes were also identified. We are going to make a presentation to the Chief Minister very soon, where the full report and plans will be presented.
Small buses will be deployed in a phased manner
Officials are assuming that it will be more economical to run these buses, as there will be around 24 seats in these buses as compared to more than 40 seats in DTC and cluster scheme buses. 300 electric minibuses will be in addition to 100 electric buses of similar size of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The Transport Department is in talks with DMRC to provide space for charging and parking of electric minibuses at its premises in different parts of the city and meetings are underway to finalize an arrangement.
