Eastern Nagaland:
The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has been demanding a separate state for some time now. This organization had announced the boycott of the assembly elections until its demand was not met. Amidst the boycott call, the Eastern Nagaland Legislators (ENLU), an organization of legislators from Eastern Nagaland, has decided to contest the upcoming assembly elections.

According to the news agency ANI, the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has demanded the formation of a separate state in August 2022, consisting of 6 districts of Eastern Nagaland. Also said that ENPO will not participate in the 2023 assembly until this demand is met. However, now this demand of ENPO is not getting the support of the legislators of its area.

Let us inform that there are 6 districts in Eastern Nagaland, from where 20 MLAs are elected. Eastern Nagaland is home to 7 tribal castes, which include the Konyak, Chang, Khaimuingam, Tikhir, Sanghtam, Yimkhuing and Phom tribes. The people of eastern Nagaland have been demanding that they get a separate statehood. Due to this, ENPO had announced to boycott the elections till the demand is fulfilled. However, the ENLU called an emergency meeting of the legislators on 22 January.

Let us tell you that this organization has been demanding a state called Frontier Nagaland since 2010. ENPO is a joint platform consisting of organizations like CKS, KTC, KU, PPC, USLP, TTC and YTC.
