ECI Exit Poll Ban: Exit, opinion polls have been banned in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat assembly elections. The Election Commission has given the order of ban. The Election Commission (ECI) has banned exit polls or opinion polls for the assembly elections to be held in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat from Saturday.

ECI Exit Poll Ban

Let us tell you that for the 68 assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh, voting started at 8 am on Saturday amid tight security arrangements. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state Gujarat will go to polls in two phases on December 1 and 8.

The ECI on Thursday issued a notification prohibiting the publication of exit poll estimates in any print and electronic media from 8 am on November 12 to 5 pm on December 5. A spokesperson of the Election Department said that as per the notification, opinion poll or any other election survey in the electronic media is prohibited. No election results or polls may be displayed, including possible election results. This is an important decision before the election process ends with the election result.

According to the notification, exit polls and opinion polls related to the assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will be prohibited under Section 126 (1) (b) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, i.e. 48 hours before the last round of voting.

The Election Commission also directed the Chief Electoral Officers of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat to request that the consultation be notified in the form of a Gazette notification and a copy be sent to the Commission for record. The concerned authorities have been advised to inform all news bureaus, media houses and radio and television channels on the advisory.

The campaigning for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections ended on Thursday. In this, a tough competition is being anticipated between BJP and Congress. Aam Aadmi Party is trying to put up a strong performance. A total of 412 candidates are in the fray for all the parties.

Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri, Congress Campaign Committee President Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and many other prominent leaders are in fray in the Himachal elections. Voters will decide the fate of the candidates. In the last several elections in Himachal Pradesh, the power has been coming and going between the BJP and the Congress. However, BJP is claiming to return with a strong mandate.

To increase the voting percentage in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the state government has declared a public holiday on the day of polling for employees of government offices, boards, corporations, educational institutions and industrial establishments in Himachal Pradesh. The counting of votes for both the states is to be held on December 8.

BJP has released its first list of 160 candidates for Gujarat elections. Voting will be held for a total of 182 assembly seats in the state. It is also interesting that BJP is in power in Gujarat for the last 27 years.
