Arun Goel (New Election Commissioner): Arun Goyal, a 1985 batch Punjab cadre officer, has taken over as the new Election Commissioner on Monday. Arun Goel has now become part of the Election Commission along with Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey. A day earlier, information about this was given by the government. Let us tell you that Goyal has replaced Sushil Chandra who retired from the post of Chief Election Commissioner in the month of May this year.

After becoming an IAS, his first posting was as SDM in Kharar (Punjab). He has also been the Deputy Commissioner in Ludhiana and has served in the Housing and Irrigation Department for a long time.

Resigned forty days before retirement

After this, he was playing an important role in PMO for many years. Last Friday itself, forty days before his retirement, he resigned from his post. He was to retire on December 31, 2022. Ever since his resignation, there were speculations that he might get some big responsibility and on Saturday all those speculations came true when the central government informed him about making him the new Election Commissioner.
