ENG vs NZ: England won by Joe Root’s century, became 10 Hazari and set a flurry of records at Lord’s

New Delhi. The first match of the 3-match Test series being played between England and New Zealand was played at Lord’s, where the English team won by 5 wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The team, led by Ben Stokes, started with a win and got back on the winning path once again. New Zealand team won the toss and elected to bat in this match, although they failed to get a good start in front of the English bowlers and were reduced to 132 runs in the first innings.

In reply, the Kiwi bowlers also started well and picked up 7 wickets on the first day itself and bundled out the England team for 141 runs in the first innings. The match saw the fall of 17 wickets on the first day itself, which made many Indian experts take a dig at the silence of those questioning the Indian pitches, although as time passed it became easier to bat on this pitch.

Kiwi team made a comeback on the basis of Mitchell-Blundell

England won by Root’s century

Due to this, England needed 279 runs to win in the fourth innings, which they easily achieved after a poor start. England’s team lost their four wickets on 69 runs, after which Joe Root (115 not out) took the innings with captain Ben Stokes (54) and shared 90 runs for the fifth wicket. Jamieson gave his team the 5th success but Joe Root put on an unbeaten 120-run partnership with Ben Fox (32) and gave his team a 5-wicket victory.

Along with completing his 26th Test century, Joe Root has also completed 10,000 runs in Test cricket and has become the second player to achieve this feat for England. However, Joe Root has overtaken Alastair Cook in the record for the fastest English batsman to achieve this figure. Alastair Cook took 10 years 87 days to achieve this record while Joe Root took 9 years and 175 days to achieve this feat. Although both the players have achieved this feat on the same day of their age. Both Alastair Cook and Joe Root have achieved this feat at the age of 31 years 157 days.
