Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal performed well against Ghana in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022, registering a 3-2 win in their opening match at the Stadium 974 here. Ronaldo missed some great chances in the early stages of the match in the first half but eventually scored from the penalty spot to put Portugal ahead of Ghana.

However, Portugal did not get a chance to breathe a sigh of relief as Andre Ayew pulled one back for Ghana in the 73rd minute of the match, but Portugal took the lead with quick goals from João Félix (78) and Rafael Leão (80). replied immediately.
Portugal fielded triple substitutes. Then the cross came in from the left and Perera looked uncomfortable as Usman Bukhari came in to convert it. Ianaki Williams then surprised Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa by bringing the ball into his area in the 10th minute of stoppage time, giving Ghana a great chance to tie the score. However, the forward lost his tackle at crucial time, giving Ronaldo and his teammates the victory.

Earlier in the first half, Ghana’s defense managed to hold down Portugal’s attack and ensure that there were no goals in the first half. In the 10th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo fired a right footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by Otavio, but it was saved.
Joao Felix also had an attempt but his left footed shot went high to the center of the box. Another goal was saved by the Ghanaian when Otavio’s right footed shot from outside the box was blocked. Then in the 42nd minute, Rafael Guerrero’s shot, assisting Cristiano Ronaldo, was blocked and Ghana remained strong in defence.
However, Portugal retained 70 percent possession compared to Ghana. Portugal also had two shots on target while Ghana had none.
