Paris : 13-time champion Rafael Nadal entered the men’s singles final of the French Open 2022 for the 14th time after his semi-final rival Alexander Zverev pulled out in the second set due to an ankle injury on Friday, June 3. Nadal was leading 7-6 (8), 6-6 when Zverev suffered an ankle injury and fell on the court. Zverev was moaning in pain after this. World No. 3 Zverev could not hold back his tears, then was taken off the court in a wheelchair.

It was a heart-wrenching moment as Rafael Nadal and Filipe Chatrier were stunned as Zverev lay on the court in unbelievable pain after a horrific injury. Zverev was unable to stand on his feet, so the medical staff rushed to the court. Then on-air commentators confirmed that Zverev would not play any more. After the match that lasted 3 hours and 13 minutes, Nadal and Zverev hugged each other in the middle of the court.

Nadal took the lead in the first set, but 21-time Grand Slam champion Zverev saved 4 set points to extend the set to 91 minutes 7-6 (8).
Zverev fell early in the second set. Both players also took a break, but Zverev went 4-2 and allowed Nadal to make a comeback.
