New Delhi, 01 June: GSAT-24, an Indian communication satellite built by the Indian Space Research Organization, will be launched on June 22 from Kourou in French Guiana. ISRO gave this information on Tuesday. NewSpace India Limited, a Government of India company under the Department of Space, is commissioning the GSAT-24 satellite mission as its first demand driven mission post, the space agency said. NSIL is a Government of India company under the Department of Space.

According to ISRO’s statement, GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite. It weighs 4,180 kg and can provide pan-India coverage to meet DTH requirements. NNIL has leased the entire capacity of the satellite to Tata Play.

After completing assembly, integration and environmental testing, GSAT-24 was approved by the Pre-Shipment Review Committee on 2 May, after which the satellite and its accessories were sent to Kourou, French Guiana on 18 May aboard a C-17 Globemaster.
