New Delhi: Delhi government will encourage people to install elevated solar panels on roof tops of buildings. People will be able to install solar panels on their roof at a height of 6 to 10 feet. In the new solar policy of Delhi, the government is considering giving subsidy up to a maximum of 10 thousand rupees for installing elevated solar panels. It is considering giving a subsidy of Rs 2 thousand per kilowatt, but the subsidy will be available only on a maximum of 5 kilowatts. Sources say that suggestions will be sought from the people by uploading the new solar policy on the website of the Energy Department. After this it will be brought to the cabinet for approval. Roof top solar installation will help in dealing with the peak load of electricity consumption in an effective manner. Let us inform that at present, 20 to 40 percent subsidy is available from the central government for installing solar panels.

According to officials, the roof was often completely surrounded by the installation of solar panels. That’s why people felt uncomfortable in getting it installed. But now people will be able to install solar panels 3 meters above the roof. In this way they will be able to use the entire roof. For this, changes have already been made in the building bye-laws. Solar panels will be installed on the hybrid Resco model. The responsibility of implementing the scheme has been given to the Discoms.

This is expected to increase to 11 per cent (2540 MW) in the next two years. The new policy targets to install solar panels on the roofs of all government buildings and encourage all individual households. Officials said the national capital has the potential to generate solar power, given the presence of 300 days of sunshine in Delhi. Officials said owners of co-operative and group housing societies, industrial and commercial units, etc. will have to set a target to install solar panels on their roofs and increase the contribution of solar energy in Delhi’s energy sector to more than 50 per cent by 2030. The government has approved the process of net metering for people to install solar panels on roof tops of buildings. That is, if a family consumes 1000 units of electricity every month and generates 400 units of electricity every month with the help of solar system, then it will get bills of 600 units every month. The person who installs a solar plant on the roof of his house will get the benefit of 2 rupees per unit. At present, roof top solar panels have been installed in 500 government schools, 150 government buildings, 60 commercial buildings, 3200 residential and 50 housing societies in the capital.
