Guru Nanak jayanti Gurpurab 2022: Guru Nanak Jayanti is the most prominent and religious festival of the Sikhs. Guru Nanak Jayanti is also known as Gurupurab, Gurpurab and Guru Nanak Prakash Utsav. This festival is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. This year the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak will be celebrated. Gurpurab is celebrated all over the world with much pomp, prayer and customs. Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik. This year, 8th November 2022 is Guru Purnima and the same day is also Guru Nanak Jayanti. Guru Nanak Dev Ji has played an important role in shaping and strengthening Sikhism. Guru Nanak Jayanti is mainly celebrated by the people of the Sikh community.

Know about Guru Nanak Dev Ji?

Some people believe that Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on 15 April 1469 in Talwandi. Which is now called Nankana Sahib located in Pakistan. But according to the Sikh community, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on the full moon day during the month of Kartik.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s father’s name is Mehta Kalu and mother’s name is Tripta. It is said that since childhood, Guru Nanak Dev was different from the rest of the children.

Guru Nanak Dev ji was a spiritual teacher and he gave knowledge to people all over the world through his teachings.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught ‘Ik Onkar’, which means that God is one. No matter what religion, caste and creed you belong to. Only God is almighty, who created this beautiful universe and is present everywhere.

How is Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrated?

On this day, especially the people of the Sikh community wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath. Wearing new clothes goes to the gurudwara. There the devotees recite the verses of the Guru Granth Sahib. Many people organize Guru Granth Sahib recitation at home.

On this day Nagarkirtan is organized by Gurdwara in every city, in which Sikh devotees take out a procession. It is organized a day before Guru Nanak Jayanti. The Nagarkirtan procession is led by five men, known as the Panj Pyare. The palanquin is carried in the Nagarkirtan procession, in which the Guru Granth Sahib is kept.

The celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti begins at around 3 am and ends at around 6 am. The morning time is called Amrit Vela. The morning is considered the most auspicious time to pray and according to Guru Nanak ji this is the best time when your soul directly connects with the Almighty God.

After Amrit Vela, devotees spend the day with rituals of Katha and Kirtan. People spend their day by chanting “Satnam Shri Waheguru”.
