A local court has agreed to hear a plea seeking permission to offer prayers to the “Shivling” found inside the Gyanvapi mosque complex in Varanasi. The petition, which has come up for hearing in a local court, also demands that Muslims be banned from the Gyanvapi mosque complex and it be handed over to Hindus. On this petition, a fast track court said that the matter deserves to be heard.

Varanasi court is already hearing in the case
Another court in Varanasi is already hearing the petition in the Gyanvapi case. Gyanvapi Masjid is located next to the iconic Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The mosque is embroiled in a legal dispute over a decades-old case. A Shivling was found at the time of video recording during the survey following a lower court order this year. This Shivling was found in a pond located inside the mosque. This pond is used by the people of the Muslim community to wash their hands and feet before offering namaz in the mosque.

At the same time, Hindu women petitioners have filed a petition demanding a “scientific investigation” of the “Shivling”. In which it is said that it is necessary to determine its age. The petition filed by the women has sought permission to worship at a dargah inside the mosque premises. The women petitioners claim that ancient idols of Hindu gods and goddesses are located inside the mosque.

However, the mosque committee objected to the scientific investigation. At the same time, the committee had also argued that the matter was of worship at a dargah inside the mosque. So it has nothing to do with its structure. Apart from this, the committee has also said that what is being called Shivling by the Hindu community is actually a fountain. So there is no point in hearing it. However, the arguments of the Muslim side have been rejected by the judge.
