Harbhajan Singh told what would have happened if Yuvraj was the captain, how he would have proved to be the captain

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that Yuvraj Singh would have been India’s best captain. Harbhajan made his international debut in 1998 and played his last match for India in 2016.

The 41-year-old former spinner and Yuvraj played together for India for most of their careers. He was also a teammate in the 2011 World Cup, which India won. Meanwhile, Harbhajan also feels that Yuvraj would have been a great captain.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Harbhajan spoke about captaining India and his early days as a cricketer. He said that when someone captains the national team, friendship should be kept aside and the country should come first. He jokingly said that if Yuvraj had captained India, the players would have had to go to bed early and get up early. He realized that Yuvraj would have been a great leader.

Yuvraj was the Man of the Tournament of the ICC World Cup 2011. He was both among the top 10 wicket-takers and run-scorers of the tournament. Harbhajan said, ‘I don’t think we would have a long career if Yuvraj was the captain. Because whatever we have played we have played to our ability and no captain has saved us from being dropped. Whenever you captain the country, you need to put friendship aside and think about the country first.

“If Yuvraj Singh was the Indian captain, we would have had to sleep early and wake up early (laughs). We would have worked very hard. He would have been a great captain. His record speaks for itself as he won the 2011 World Cup player of the year. The tournament was won.”

Recalling his early days in cricket, the off-spinner revealed that he started off both as a batsman and a fast bowler.

Harbhajan said, “I started out as a batsman but was also a fast bowler. I don’t know how I progressed as a spinner. But maybe when asked what I do I should say Was that I bat. Because when you are a batsman and play for India, the whole world is in your footsteps. Cricket is a batsman’s game, you will hardly find any bowler a ‘superstar’. People for fours and sixes want to kill.”
