Chandigarh. After a long delay, finally the notification of Haryana Panchayat elections has been issued. The reserved seats for Scheduled Castes and Backward Class A have also been announced for the Haryana Panchayat elections. In Haryana, the work of reserving seats for women, Backward Class-A and Scheduled Castes in Panchayati Raj Institutions has been completed. The Development and Panchayat Department on Tuesday issued notification of wards reserved for members in all Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis, Gram Panchayats reserved for Sarpanch and wards reserved for Panchs. With this, the preparations for the elections in Panch-Sarpanches and Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitis will pick up pace now.

  Haryana Panchayat Elections: Declared reserved seats for Scheduled Castes and Backward Class

A total of 36 wards have been reserved for Backward Class-A and 92 for Scheduled Castes category in all 22 Zilla Parishads by the Development and Panchayat Department. In Hisar, Karnal and Sirsa district councils, maximum three wards have been reserved for Backward Class-A, while in Gurugram no ward is reserved for Backward Classes.

The State Election Commission has sought time till November 30 to conduct the elections. Elections are to be held for 71 thousand 763 posts for Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state. These include 6226 posts of sarpanch, 62 thousand 40 panches, 3086 members of 143 panchayat samitis and 411 members of 22 zilla parishads. About 22 thousand polling booths will be set up in the Panchayat elections. There are about 1.25 crore voters.
