Chandigarh. In the second phase of Panchayat elections, the candidates who have contested for the Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samiti members in nine districts have put their full strength. On Monday, the deadline for campaigning ended in Ambala, Charkhi Dadri, Gurugram, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rewari, Rohtak, Sirsa and Sonipat. Now the candidates of council and panchayat samitis are in door-to-door contact in these districts. Voting for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members will be held on Wednesday from 7 am to 6 pm. Polling for the post of Sarpanch and Panch is to be held on November 12.

In the second phase, 1183 candidates are in the fray for 158 seats in Zilla Parishad and 4770 for 1244 seats in Panchayat Samiti. Out of these 45 Block Committee members have been unanimously elected. Along with this, 10 thousand 858 candidates are in the fray for 2683 posts of Sarpanch. In the second phase, the Sarpanch has been elected unanimously in 125 panchayats. In this way, now elections will be held for 2558 seats. For 8607 posts of Panch, 18 thousand 413 candidates are competing in the electoral fray. In the second phase, 16 thousand 345 panchs have been elected unanimously.

The nomination round has intensified in the four districts of Hisar, Fatehabad, Palwal and Faridabad, the districts of the third and final phase of Panchayat elections. Till Monday evening, 18 people had filed nominations for zip, 39 for panchayat samitis, 90 for sarpanch and 32 for panch. Candidates willing to contest elections can file nomination papers till November 11.

Voting for the members of Zilla Parishad and Block Samiti in the four districts will be held on November 22, while for Panch-Sarpanches will be held on November 25. If there is a situation of re-polling for Zilla Parishad and Block Committees, then re-polling will be done on November 25 only. November 27 has been fixed for re-polling of Panch-Sarpanches. The election results of the Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis across the state will be declared on November 27 only.
