New Delhi, 07 June :
The farmers facing the wrath of the weather have to struggle to save their crops. The ever-increasing temperature during the summer is taking a ‘fire test’ of the farmers’ crop. Vegetables in particular are being affected badly. According to agriculture experts, farmers need to maintain sufficient moisture to avoid scorching of vegetables. Irrigation should be done from time to time.

It was cold but now it has been hot since then, the mercury once again crossed 45

Fear of crop scorching due to heat
Actually, this month of June is especially important for the farmers of Punjab and Haryana. This is because farmers generally start sowing of Kharif crops from the second week of June. In Kharif crops, farmers of Punjab and Haryana produce paddy in large quantities. Paddy is cultivated on more than 26 lakh hectares of land in Punjab. The paddy nursery is also likely to be affected by the scorching heat. According to experts, due to the rise in temperature, the cultivation of paddy can be affected, which is not left for sowing later. In such a situation, there is a need to control the temperature to protect them from heat.
How to save vegetables?
Regarding protecting crops like lemon, pumpkin, muskmelon and baby pumpkin from heat, LS Brar of Punjab Horticulture Department said, Irrigation is necessary to save vegetables from heat wave. Due to hot weather the plants wither and this affects the activity of photosynthesis. That is, the plants are unable to prepare food and drink for themselves and the production of the crop is affected.
cotton farmers crisis
Cotton cultivation is also done on a large scale in Punjab Haryana during the summer season. Heat wave is going on in North India due to scorching heat and cotton crop is also expected to be affected in this heat. Agricultural experts believe that irrigation is the only option to save the cotton crop from scorching. Let us inform that the temperature is above 42 degree Celsius in agricultural areas like Punjab and Haryana.
Plants will survive only by irrigation
SS Gosal of Punjab Agricultural University said in a report in Hindustan Times about saving cotton crop, the ongoing heat wave can cause serious damage to the cotton crop. He said that cotton crop is more sensitive to heat. According to Gosal, apart from the germination stage, light irrigation is necessary to avoid scorching of cotton plants. He said that only reduction in temperature can save the cotton crop from heat wave. Farmers should monitor their crops regularly and do light irrigation in the fields. Gosal told that the crop would be damaged due to the wave on sowing of cotton. This is likely to affect the overall production as well.
Fire raining from the sky!
Significantly, in many areas of the national capital Delhi, the temperature is more than 45 degrees. According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no possibility of getting relief from the scorching heat for the next two-three days. IMD has said that apart from Jharkhand, South Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, there is a possibility of heat wave in some parts of North Madhya Pradesh. According to a PTI report, Banda (46.8 degrees Celsius) and Fatehgarh (46.4 degrees Celsius) districts of Uttar Pradesh were the hottest in the country on Monday.
The helplessness of the farmers growing vegetables!
According to the report of Jagran.com, farmers cultivating vegetables in Haryana told that vegetables are getting spoiled due to scorching heat. Production has decreased. To save the vegetables, irrigation is being done more than usual, yet the vegetables are getting scorched. The price is not good in the market.
Paddy crop will be affected if it does not rain
According to the farmers who cultivate paddy, even the plants prepared in the nursery for sowing of paddy are not able to bear the heat. Farmers believe that irrigation through tube wells is falling short. Paddy production may be affected due to lack of rain. Agricultural experts also believe that only measures like irrigation, moisture and temperature control can protect the products of farmers.
