New Delhi, 13 September: Hindi Divas is celebrated every year on 14 September in India. Special programs are organized in schools, colleges, offices and organizations to showcase and highlight the importance of Hindi. Hindi was adopted as the official language by the Constituent Assembly on 14 September 1949 and since then 14 September is celebrated as Hindi Diwas every year. The Department of Official Language, Ministry of Home Affairs promotes the progressive use of Hindi in the official work of the Union.
Hindi Divas is celebrated every year by organizing special programs in Delhi by the Ministry of Home Affairs. This year Hindi Divas will be organized outside Delhi for the first time. The events will be held in Surat, Gujarat.
