Hyderabad gangrape: Juvenile board sends 4 accused to police custody

Hyderabad, 09 June: In the Jubilee Hills gang rape case, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has allowed the Hyderabad Police to take four minors into custody for four days. The board’s decision comes after the Hyderabad Police appealed to allow the accused juveniles to be presented as adults. A total of six people have been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl last month.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand told reporters late on Tuesday, “Six accused have been arrested in this case. One of the six is a major. One of the accused minors is one month below 18 years of age. Arrested. Five of those who went were involved in the sexual assault of the teenager on May 28. In the video, a teenager was purportedly seen misbehaving with her but was not involved in the rape.
The city police had earlier filed a petition with the Juvenile Justice Board seeking to treat the five accused as adults during the trial in the gang rape case to ensure that they get maximum punishment. Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) had welcomed the Hyderabad Police’s move. KTR wrote in a tweet, “If you are adult enough to commit a heinous crime like rape, you should be punished as an adult too and not as a juvenile.

Commissioner Anand said that strict sections of the law have been imposed against those involved in the heinous crime. He said that the punishment under these sections can be imprisonment for life or up to the death penalty. The matter will be heard in the special court. Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said that in total, six people have been arrested in this case, of whom five are minors. The MLA’s son has been booked under section 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty of woman) of IPC and POCSO Act and not for gang rape. The Innova from which the crime has been committed is a government vehicle. Five others have been charged under sections 376(d) (gang rape), 354, 366 (kidnapping), POCSO Act, IT Act (for transmitting video with victim) and other relevant sections.
