New Delhi, June 22: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has expressed happiness over the media rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which have been sold for a hefty amount. With this, the IPL has become the second most attractive league among all the sports leagues in the world. ICC is happy because of this cricket is becoming so popular and strong. Another ICC official said that this is a good confirmation of where the market for the game is.

ICC Chief Commercial Officer Anurag Dahiya said that the cricket league has shown that there is a fight for rights.
ESPNcricinfo quoted ICC Vice President Media Rights Sunil Manoharan as saying, “I think, more than anything, we are happy. Cricket is so popular and so strong in the world’s strongest market, it’s great news for everyone.” “

The IPL, for the next cycle, will be second only to the National Football League (NFL) of America, overtaking England’s Premier League (PL) among all sports leagues in the world, in terms of media rights.
The ICC on Monday also sent an invitation to tender for its own rights for the 2024-2031 cycle. Dahiya further added, “There is intense competition for these rights, we wanted to do it in a particular order.”
Media rights to ICC events for the 2024-2031 cycle will be available in six packages for digital, TV and both. The rights to the women’s event will be sold separately from the men’s event. Men’s events are available for bidding for four or eight years, while women’s events can only be bid for four years.
