The bank gives a debit card to all its account holders, with which this insurance cover is available. However, the insurance cover varies depending on the categories of the card.

SBI account holders get free insurance up to Rs 20 lakh at their ATMs. This insurance is accidental death insurance, which benefits more than 40 crore account holders of SBI. Any account holder of the bank can claim it in case of accidental death with this insurance. The bank gives death insurance up to Rs 10 lakh in case of road accident and Rs 20 lakh in case of air accident to its account holders.

  • Who will get this insurance, it depends on the category of your debit card. At the same time, your card should be active at least 90 days ago. The sum insured varies depending on the category of the debit card, such as:

  • 2 lakh in road accident and 4 lakh in air accident insurance is available with SBI Gold card.

  • With SBI Platinum card, insurance of 5 lakhs is available in case of road accident and 10 lakhs in case of air accident.

  • 2 lakh on SBI Pride card and 4 lakh in case of air accident.

  • 5 lakh on road accident on SBI premium and 10 lakh in case of air accident.

  • With SBI Visa Card Signature or MasterCard, a cover of 10 lakhs is available in case of death of the card holder in a road accident and 20 lakhs in case of death in an air accident.

If the bank account holder dies in an accident, then the family of the card holder will have to go to the bank and claim the insurance within 2 to 5 months. After submitting the compensation application, they will have to provide proof of the treatment of the card holder and a copy of the complaint of the accident with the police. In case of death, certificate of dependent, copy of FIR and death certificate will have to be given. After completion of the paperwork, the bank will give the sum insured to the card holder or the dependent of the card holder.
