The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to launch a nationwide campaign to remove illegal occupation of enemy properties. Earlier such a data has been received, which shows that 30 percent of such enemy properties in the state are in illegal possession. This figure is very encouraging, because after the removal of encroachment drive, a large number of such properties will be re-established by the government. Not only this, the government is also aware that many such properties have been rented out for decades at very nominal rent. The government is now preparing to collect rent from them at the current market price.


In UP, 30% of enemy properties are in illegal possession – report
According to a report by the English newspaper The Hindu newspaper, a figure from the Uttar Pradesh government shows that 30% of enemy properties in the state are illegally occupied. The state government is preparing to launch a campaign across the state to remove encroachments from such properties. Enemy property is said to be those properties which have been left by those people who have left India and shifted to the enemy countries of the country. Mafias also have possession of such properties
According to the Uttar Pradesh government, 1,467 such enemy properties are in the possession of mafia and others. While about 369 have been taken over by someone else and 424 properties have been kept on rent from the government on nominal rent during the tenure of the previous governments. Out of the total 5,936 enemy properties in UP, about 2,250 have been kept illegally.

Shamli number one in case of illegal occupation
The data also shows that most of the enemy properties are in illegal possession in Shamli district. There are a total of 482 enemy properties in the district, out of which 268 are kept in illegal possession. Last week, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the state home department to conduct a nationwide drive to remove encroachments from enemy properties and prepare an updated report on such properties. How seriously the Yogi government is taking this issue, it can be seen from the fact that it has decided to appoint a principal secretary level officer to oversee the matter.

Rent will also be re-evaluated
The state government has also decided to re-evaluate the let-out properties. Because, it has come to notice that these properties were taken on rent decades ago for a very nominal amount and are still paying the same rent. Now the government wants to assess those properties at the current market price.
