Founder Director of Bhilai IIT, Chhattisgarh Prof. Rajat Moona has been entrusted with the responsibility of Director, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. Along with this, BHU (School of Material Science and Technology) Prof. Rajiv Prakash has been appointed as the Director of IIT Bhilai. He will soon take over as the second director of IIT Bhilai. But in the meantime Prof. Rajat Moona during his tenure made a valuable contribution in developing IIT Bhilai started with very limited resources into a better institution. Prof. Moona has been Director General of C-DAC
Prof. Moon was the Director General of C-DAC before being the Director of IIT Bhilai. At IIT Gandhinagar, Prof. Moona was a professor at IIT Kanpur. He is Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur since 1991. He did his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur during the year 1981-85. Then did PhD in Computer Science from IIS Bangalore from 1985-89.

Contribution to the development of IIT Bhilai
After the establishment of IIT in Chhattisgarh in the year 2017, Prof. Rajat Moona was the first director of IIT Bhilai. Who started IIT Bhilai with limited resources and took the institute forward. Along with this, he also achieved many achievements. During the tenure of Professor Rajat Muna, new courses and branches were started due to his tireless efforts. Got the gift of new building of IIT Bhilai. He got the design of the new IIT building prepared under his supervision. After which the foundation of IIT Bhilai was laid in the year 2019. IIT Bhilai’s Architecture received 5 star rating by GRIHA for IIT Bhilai’s construction project Green Building.

Emphasis given in research and research, 500 research papers published
Professor Rajat Moona made a significant contribution to the recognition of IIT Bhilai in these 5 years. Most of the work was done in the field of education and research in IIT Bhilai under his leadership. He was instrumental in increasing the number of students by increasing the admission seats in IITs. As a result of which the number of students has increased from 115 to about 900 today. Along with this, more than 500 research papers of students have been published. Two convocations of IIT Bhilai were conducted during his tenure. Degrees were awarded to more than 500 students.

Pro. MOANA has been instrumental in developing and defining applications such as Smart Card Driving License, E-Passport, Vehicle Registration, Electronic Toll Collection, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), VVPAT. He has also been conferred with many awards at national and international level.

These challenges will be in front of the new director
The new director of Bhilai IIT, Professor Rajeev Prakash, will have the responsibility of management after shifting from the old IIT Bhilai’s Sejbahar campus to the IIT campus being built in Kutela Bhata, Bhilai. Along with this, teaching work and administrative work will have to be started by making well-planned arrangements. Along with this, along with research and research of students in IIT, it will be the responsibility of keeping IIT Bhilai at the forefront of other activities. Creating an inclusive and educational environment for the students at IIT Bhilai rests with a great responsibility on the Director.
