New Delhi, 21st September: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath on Wednesday. During the meeting, Congress interim chief Sonia Gandhi told Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot that she would not favor anyone in the upcoming elections for the next party president.
According to the Hindustan Times report, during the meeting with Ashok Gehlot, Sonia Gandhi made her stand clear and said that she will not take any side in the upcoming elections for the next president of the party. The principle of one man one post will come to the fore when the candidate is finalized and will win. He had said the same thing to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. When he met her two days back to discuss his candidature for the post of party president.
Gehlot arrived in the national capital on Wednesday morning to meet Sonia Gandhi. Discussions about his candidature came after he held a late night meeting with MLAs in Jaipur on Tuesday and said that if he actually files his nomination, all the MLAs will be asked to reach Delhi. Gehlot, however, thanked the Congress people for showing “trust, love and trust”.
He said that he would make one last effort to convince party MP and former president Rahul Gandhi again. After meeting Sonia Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot will leave for Mumbai from Delhi. After this, reach Kochi from Mumbai on Thursday morning. In the southern state, he will meet Rahul, who is busy with the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

As per the announced schedule for the election of Congress President, the notification will be issued on September 22 and the process of filing nominations will go on from September 24 to 30. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 8. In case of more than one candidate, polling will be held on October 17 and results will be declared on October 19.
