Who is Jitesh Sharma?

Jitesh Sharma made a name for himself playing for the Punjab Kings. He was a part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2017 but did not get a game. The wicketkeeper-batsman has so far played 12 matches for PBKS, scoring 234 runs in 10 innings. His highest score is 44 off 34 balls against Delhi Capitals. He represents Vidarbha in domestic cricket and has been a consistent performer there. He is one of the key players in this team and has been batting at the top.

After scoring 537 runs in 12 innings in the 2012–13 Cooch Behar Trophy, he played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in March 2014. During the same season he would play his first List A match. The next year was even better for Jitesh as he emerged as the third highest run-scorer in the 2015–16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The right-handed batsman then scored 343 runs at a strike rate of over 140. He also made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2015–16 season but failed to make a tangible impact.

This wicketkeeper was bought by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2016 auction for one million. Then in the 2022 mega auction, the Punjab Kings franchise bought him for Rs 20 lakh.

Why Jitesh Sharma can prove to be a great replacement?

Why Jitesh Sharma can prove to be a great replacement?

In the absence of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, the current T20I squad has only wicketkeeper-batsman – Ishan Kishan. Jitesh can not only don the gloves when needed, but is also an effective batsman at No.5 and 6. The 29-year-old has also played the role of a finisher for Punjab Kings and Vidarbha. He is the kind of player who can strike from the first ball itself.
