New Delhi 31st May : India and Pakistan held the last meeting of the two-day 118th Permanent Indus Commission on Tuesday. According to the information, both the countries have given positive signs. The meeting, held annually under the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) 1960, began on Monday with a six-member Pakistani delegation. It also included a woman who has come to India to take part in it.

The Pakistani delegation includes Meher Ali Shah, Syed Mohammad, Sahibzad Khan, Habib Ullah Bodla, Khalid Mahmood, Saman Muneeb. The six-member delegation from India is being led by the new Indus Commissioner of India, AK Pal. Let us tell you that this meeting is taking place within three months of the last meeting held in Islamabad. The 117th meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission was held in Islamabad in March. The Indian team at that time was led by PK Saxena, the then Indus commissioner of India.
There is a meeting every year regarding water
According to the provisions of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) 1960, between India and Pakistan on the sharing of waters of the six rivers of the Indus basin, both countries have Indus Commissioners and Permanent Indus Commissions that meet every year.

Explain that, out of the six rivers of the Indus basin, India has rights over three eastern rivers, the Sutlej, the Beas and the Ravi. At the same time, Pakistan has rights over Chenab, Jhelum and Indus. Let us tell you that in the last meeting held in New Delhi on March 2021, hydrology and flood data were discussed. During this time India and Pakistan reiterated their commitment to implement the Indus Water Treaty in its true spirit.
The last diplomatic talks between the two countries were held in December 2015, and that’s when they managed to announce the resumption of talks. Whereas the process could not proceed due to Pathankot attack.
