Jagan Mohan government’s big decision, 36 villages will be included in Polavaram waterlogged list

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to include 36 villages in the list of submergence villages under the Polavaram irrigation project keeping in mind the number of villages submerged in Godavari floods in 2022. Significantly, a total of 13,937 people are displaced in 36 villages.

The state government has issued an order to the concerned district magistrates asking them to prepare a list for sanctioning the compensation amount to the oustees. These villages include 10 in Velerupadu mandal and nine in Kukkunur mandal in Eluru district, five in Chintoor, five in VR Puram mandal and seven in Kunavaram mandal in ASR district.

Rehabilitation and Resettlement Commissioner C Sridhar said that despite the contour levels, the villages have been included in the list of inundated villages as the flood water had entered these villages and in Perantallapalli, Turpumetta, Tekuru, Kakinuru, Kacharam, Yerrametta There was heavy damage to property.

On March 13, 2023, former MP and senior Congress leader KVP Ramachandra Rao wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the plight of the Polavaram National Irrigation Project. Ramachandra Rao said the Centre’s negligence in allocating adequate funds is causing inordinate delay in the completion of the project, which could harness over 300 TMC of water that was being wasted in the sea.
