Around 92,000 candidates from Andhra Pradesh have applied for JEE (Main) 2023 January session. This is about 11% of the total applications in the country, placing Andhra Pradesh at the third position among all States/UTs. While Maharashtra tops the list with 1.03 lakh applications, Uttar Pradesh comes second with 99,714 candidates.

Vijayawada (15,602 applications) occupied the fifth position among all Indian cities in terms of generating the highest number of applications. Around 12,000 applicants are from Visakhapatnam. Delhi topped among all cities with 36,530 applications, followed by Hyderabad (32,246), Kota (24,253) and Patna (19,820). Joint Entrance Examination (Main)-2023 Session 1 will start from Tuesday 24th January.

The growing demand for JEE, currently considered the most prestigious exam in Andhra Pradesh, can be gauged from the fact that the state has overtaken many other populous states in JEE application numbers. The situation was quite different a decade ago, when APEAPCET (earlier known as EAMCET) was considered a premium entrance exam. Only a few thousand students used to attempt JEE.

With the growing awareness about the educational opportunities available across the country, if not the world, more and more students and their parents are now opting for JEE. Not only on the application front, in recent years nearly 25% of the total seats in IITs are being secured by Telugu students.
