Ranchi.13 September: Jharkhand government has also started taking concrete steps regarding electric vehicles. Now after Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the Jharkhand government is also bringing a policy to encourage electric vehicles. The draft policy has been prepared and the policy can be approved in the cabinet meeting of the state government on September 14.


The government aims to have 10 percent of the total vehicles in the state with electric vehicles by 2026. For this, the government can give incentive amount ranging from 10 thousand to 1.5 lakh rupees to the buyers of electric vehicles. In August last year, the government had informed electric vehicle makers in New Delhi about the proposed EV policy of Jharkhand.

Complete waiver of registration fee was promised

However, under this it was promised complete exemption from stamp duty and registration fee from electric car makers. The government had said that through the Jharkhand Industrial Area Development Authority, the land would be provided to the car manufacturers at 50 per cent subsidy. To avail this benefit, they will have to set up a production unit in the state within the first two years from the launch of Jharkhand’s EV policy. It also proposes complete exemption from vehicle registration fee and road tax. The state government has made many companies including Tata, Hyundai, Maruti, Honda aware of its draft.

At the same time, it has been provided in the policy that the buyers will get a discount of 10 percent in terms of the total price in any case. For electric buses also, the state government will give the benefit of subsidy to the consumers. According to the government’s plan, one charging station will be installed within every three km and charging stations will be installed at every 24 km on the national highway. The proposed EV policy has been agreed to by the Finance, Commercial Taxes and Law Departments. This policy will be applicable for five years.
