Ranchi, November 24: Four players from Jharkhand have made it to the Indian hockey team. Jharkhand is dominant in hockey, on Wednesday four players from Jharkhand were selected in the Indian women’s hockey team. Among these players, mid fielder Nikki Pradhan, fast forward Salima Tete and Sangeeta Kumari have been selected. Forward Beauty Dungdung gets a place in the hockey team for the first time. The Indian women’s hockey team will be participating in the FIH Women’s Hockey Nations Cup to be held in Spain from 27 November to 18 December.


Jharkhand Hockey President Bholanath Singh said in a phone conversation, it is a matter of pride for the state. Hockey is played since childhood in many states of Jharkhand, this preparation is working for the state. Indian women’s hockey team is participating in big competitions like Olympics and World Cup. There is more potential in the state, we can do better in hockey. We are constantly trying to do better in this.

National level talent is emerging from the village
Most of the players of Jharkhand have made their place on the basis of their hard work. Most of the players are from rural environment, bamboo hockey came in their hands in the village itself. Hockey is made in the village itself, hockey made of bamboo is helping to sculpt the players. Many national level players are being prepared with the help of this hockey in Simdega area.

Nikki Pradhan- Nikki Pradhan, a resident of Perol village in Murhu block of Khunti district, started playing hockey in her childhood. There was no hockey ground in the village where he could prepare for the national level. He came to the city and made his preparations. His hard work and his love for the game have made him reach this point today. Nikki is not the only one, three sisters have also been national level hockey players. Nikki has participated in two Olympics as well as has shown her talent in many big games including World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Asia Cup.

Salima Tete is a resident of Barki Chhapar village in Sadar block of Simdega district. Hockey is played a lot in many villages of Simdega district. Salima used to walk long distances to go to school. He was selected in the school team, then his brilliant game earned him recognition in many village level competitions. Salima’s brilliant performance in the village’s Khasi Cup, Murga Cup had started being talked about. Slowly, Salima made a place in the national team. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also dated Salima’s game.

Sangeeta Kumari- Sangeeta, a resident of Kargagudi Navatoli village in Kersai block of Simdega district, also picked up hockey made of bamboo in her childhood. Hockey is a childhood sport in these areas. Despite living in a poor family, Sangeeta continued to fulfill her passion for sports. In one year, she was the face of the Indian team in many competitions including Commonwealth Games, FIH Hockey League and Junior Asia Cup in the past.

Beauty Dungdung – Several members of Beauty Dungdung’s family from Kargaguri Baju Toli in Kersai block of Simdega district have given a new identity to hockey. He got a place in the junior team. Beauty’s grandfather, father, uncle, brother and sister-in-law were all national level players playing hockey in the home environment, this is the reason why Beauty’s talent also kept flourishing among so many players.
