The recently launched Kanti Velugu scheme by the Government of Telangana has covered 142 villages and eye screening is still going on in 97 villages. This information has been given in a press release issued by the government.
The number of males who have undergone eye check-up so far is 6,22,650, while females are 2,78,421, transgender 261, SC 1,10,994, ST 53,541, OBC 3,47,545 and other caste and minority community respectively. There are 64,601 and 29,096 people. The total number of people who have received spectacles is 1,53,061. Of these, 15,145 people below the age of 40 years and 1,28,744 people of the age of 40 years and above have received reading glasses.
The number of people who do not have any eye problem is 3,53,390. A total of 1,60,471 people got their eyes checked in 1500 camps organized across the state on the first day of the launch of the scheme, the release said. Camps will be organized in all gram panchayats and municipal wards in the next 100 days to screen 1.5 crore people. Along with this, free medicines and spectacles will be distributed among the people. The Kanti Velugu camps will be conducted five days a week between 9 am to 4 pm for the next 100 days.
A total of 1,500 medical teams have been formed to conduct the camps. In this, about 1.5 crore people will be screened and 55 lakh spectacles and medicines will be distributed.
