Laxman’s statue will be 111 feet
The Executive Committee of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) in an important meeting on Sunday approved a budget of ₹ 47.11 crore for the 111 feet Laxman statue project in Lucknow. LMC officials said that out of the total amount, Rs 15.20 crore is to be spent on the statue, while Rs 29.21 crore is to be used to develop the space around the statue, on which the statue will be installed and a museum.
A green park will be built around the statue
Officials said the rest of the amount is to be spent on development of a garden and other beautification works around the statue, which has been proposed on the banks of river Gomti. The LMC had sought NOC from the Irrigation Department through a letter on June 6. However, NOC has not been received as the department has stated that the place where the LMC wanted to install the idol was a flood zone. Some officials claimed that the Irrigation Department officials who delayed the NOCs were known to create hurdles in important projects.
The issue of delay in the project will be raised in front of the Chief Minister.
On Sunday, the executive committee of the LMC expressed anger over the functioning of the officials of the Irrigation Department. An LMC official said that the executive committee of the LMC has now tasked Lucknow Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia to take up the issue of delay in the project with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. LMC chief engineer Mahesh Verma said, “A letter was sent to the irrigation department for its NOC on June 6, but there has been no response even after several months.”
NOC not received for installation of Laxman’s statue
Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department, Satyapriya said, “The decision has to be taken at a higher level. All I can say is that at present NOC has not been given to the LMC for the installation of the idol of Lord Laxman. As per the mandate dated 3 February 1992. Accordingly, the place where the river bank and the marginal embankments are constructed, the distance between the two embankments is marked as the flood zone and any construction in these areas is prohibited.
Laxman’s idol to be installed in Jhulelal Vatika
The LMC had earlier approved the installation of an idol of Lord Laxman near Jhulelal Vatika on the banks of the Gomti. He had also proposed to install the idol in front of Lakshman Tila, but this proposal was shelved due to the presence of Mosque Mosque there due to objections from some Muslim councillors. Although this matter had heated up even during the government of Akhilesh Yadav, but then Akhilesh refused to approve the project.
