Kota, 22 June. In Rajasthan, the Gehlot government has finally decided to purchase garlic in the market intervention scheme under pressure from farmers and public representatives. However, even after the approval of the Central Government, the State Government was not willing to purchase. The government will buy only 46830 metric tonnes of garlic. Whereas the Horticulture Department has estimated the production of seven lakh metric tonnes of garlic in Kota division.

With the efforts of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the state government has also given green signal for purchasing 46830 metric tonnes of garlic in Kota division through Rajfed.

2957 fixed per quintal

Autonomous Governance Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that on Tuesday, a meeting of officers of the concerned departments was held in Jaipur under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Agriculture Dinesh Kumar. In this, it was decided to purchase garlic through Rajfed under conditions. The government has fixed the price of garlic procurement at Rs 2957 per quintal.

Talking to the Chief Minister, Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that there is a possibility of garlic getting spoiled during the rains. After this, on the instructions of the Chief Minister, a meeting of the officers of the concerned departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Cooperative was organized under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Agriculture.

Purchase will be done in 6 districts

In Kota district, 13 thousand 500 metric tonnes of garlic will be purchased at Kota and Sangod procurement centers. In Jhalawar, 8830 MT will be purchased at Khanpur and Bhawani Mandi procurement centers, 13700 MT in Baran at Baran and Chhipabarod procurement centers. In Bundi district, 4000 metric tonnes will be purchased at Keshavaraipatan procurement center. 5000 metric tonnes will be purchased in Pratapgarh district and 1800 metric tonnes in Jodhpur.

Lok Sabha Speaker took the initiative

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was recently urged by the farmers’ organizations of Hadoti to bring the price of garlic to the lowest level and start procurement under the Market Intervention Scheme. Taking a big initiative, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha had asked the Agriculture Minister of the state to send the proposal of market intervention scheme to the Center by talking on the phone. After sending the proposal on behalf of the state government, with the efforts of Birla, the proposal was immediately approved by the Center.
